Kate Middleton wows in Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen
We were all glued to our screens when Kate Middleton made her way to the altar on Friday afternoon. Though her dress had been a closely guarded secret, rumours had circulated that it would be Sarah Burton who would bag the once in a lifetime opportunity.
Girl About Town chatted to Nicola, the manager of Blushes Bridal studio on London Road, and asked for her opinion on Kate’s dress and how she would have dressed her if she bagged the coveted role.
According to the Chinese, it is the year of the ‘vintage’ Rabbit.
Earlier this year, Girl About Town reported on the Flock Boutique for Asos launch party, which was a major success. So successful in fact, that Flock has now relocated to a bigger premise in London.
But fear not vintage enthusiasts, in its place is Lottiebel’s Boutique, owned by the lovely Lottie Sissons and it is still a haven of quaint, unique finds and genuine vintage circa 1970 and beyond.
Have a little listen to Lottie’s views on competing with the high street, and how she feels about high street giants like Miss Selfridge and River Island stocking vintage pieces.
What do you think of the latest spring fashion – Palazzo pants?
They are now available in all the highstreet shops such as Topshop, River Island and Dorothy Perkins. If you are looking for cheap and cheerful, why not visit boohoo.com, where the prices on these beautiful pants start from just £12.00!
I definitely was not a fan when I first set my eyes on them, but I have to contradict myself and say they are slowly growing on me. Team the pants with a tight fitted t-shirt, which highlights the waist and I think that they would look absolutely perfect.

Vintage lovers ‘Flock’ to Asos Launch Party
When: Thursday 17th March 2011
Where: The Forum Bar
What time: 7.30pm
Sheffield is renowned for it’s abundance of quirky vintage shops and unique boutiques. These independent businesses make a living off selling one off, individual pieces that are perfectly at home in any fashionista’s Carrie-esque closet.
Flock boutique, owned by Rebecca Lockwood, is a little vintage haven situated in The Forum and boasts key items like beaded flapper frocks from the 20s to leather satchels from the 70s. Also selling handmade scrabble and Lego rings, the store is jam packed with reworked clothing made from vintage fabrics and the décor is shabby chic mixed with plenty of chintz.
With lots of vintage vixens passing through its door every day and the store being uber successful, owner Rebecca landed herself a major coup with Asos Marketplace. Selling her unique, vintage finds on Asos turned her tiny, independent business into a regional one and to celebrate, she treated all of the girls in Sheffield to a party at The Forum Bar.
This trendy location provided the perfect atmosphere for the most fashionable party in the ‘Steel City’ and Rebecca was ecstatic.
‘I’m so excited! I didn’t think I’d get this bar with it being St Patrick’s Day. I’ve had so many people on Facebook saying they’ll be attending so hopefully it’ll be a really good evening.’
And she had every right to be excited. Despite the party clashing with many St Patrick’s Day bar crawls, the evening turned out to be an intimate gathering of vintage lovers and fashionistas with individual, eclectic styles. The lively atmosphere and friendly faces made for a good night and the champers was flowing almost all night long.
Generous Rebecca even offered the partygoers 20% off at Flock and everyone literally flocked there to see which treasures they would find in the little gem of a store.
We were also treated to dainty cupcakes and the music by a top London DJ was a mix of everything from The Strokes to Blondie to Lady Gaga, as eclectic as the guests’ styles!
Claire Haynes, a vintage lover through and through said: ‘I’m so pleased a little shop like Flock is selling for someone as huge as Asos. Just proves us Sheffield girls have style! But seriously, I’m really happy for Rebecca and I’ve really enjoyed myself tonight, especially the free champagne!’
The party ended at the modest time of 10pm, no doubt so everybody could get home and pair their vintage finds with different outfits!
